Faculty Qualification Standards

Status

Criteria

Scholarly Academics

(SA)

Initial classification:

A doctoral degree.

 

Ongoing activities:

Faculty members satisfying one of the following criteria are classified as SA status:

(1) Newly hired participating faculty members whose doctoral degree is conferred within 5 years, or

(2) At least 3 PRJ papers in the past 5 years, or

(3) At least 2 PRJ papers plus 2 publications that meet the definition of intellectual contribution in AACSB accreditation standards in the past 5 years.

Practice Academics

(PA)

Initial classification:

A doctoral degree.

 

Ongoing activities:

Faculty members satisfying one of the following criteria are classified as PA status:

(1) Faculty internships at a government entity or a publicly listed company, or

(2) At least 1 PRJ paper or 2 publications that meet the definition of intellectual contribution in AACSB accreditation standards in the past 5 years, plus 2 or more of the following activities:

(a)   Serving as the principal investigator of a research or an industry collaboration/consulting project;

(b)   Supervising a practice-oriented thesis;

(c)   Serving as a consultant or advisor at a government entity or in a business;

(d)   Serving as a board member, director or supervisor in a business;

(e)   Serving in a leadership position at a recognized society or association;

(f)    Serving in a leadership position at a professional association;

(g)   Receiving business education training.

Scholarly Practitioners

(SP)

Initial classification:

A master’s degree.

 

Ongoing activities:

Faculty members satisfying the following criteria are classified as SP status:

At least 1 publication that meets the definition of intellectual contribution in AACSB accreditation standards in the past 5 years, plus 2 or more of the following activities:

(a)   Serving as the editor-in-chief, associate editor, or editorial board member of a business journal/magazine;

(b)   Serving in a leadership position in a recognized academic society or association;

(c)   Participating in activities in an academic or professional society/association/community;

(d)   Maintaining a qualification of business training/education.

Instructional Practitioners

(IP)

Initial classification:

A master’s degree.

 

Ongoing activities:

Faculty members satisfying the following criteria are classified as IP status:

Currently in a full-time or part-time position at a government entity or a business, plus 1 or more of the following activities:

(a)   Serving as a consultant or advisor at a government entity or in a business;

(b)   Serving as a board member, director or supervisor in a business;

(c)   Serving in a management position at a government entity or a business (the position of a court official such as a judge is also accepted);

(d)   Serving in a leadership position at a professional association;

(e)   Maintaining a professional certificate related to the field of teaching.
